Jacquelyn Starer, 68, faces charges of civil disorder, assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, the Department of Justice said.
The FBI alleges that Starer illegally broke into the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, during a "Stop the Steal" rally.
Surveillance video shows Starer entering through the East Rotunda Doors wearing a hat with the name "TRUMP" along with the number 45 on it. A Metropolitan police officer confronted her just before 3 p.m., and Starer punched her in the side of the head, charging documents allege.
The FBI included still images from the officer's body cam of the attacker.
Video shows Starer leaving the East Rotunda at 3:06 p.m., the FBI said.
A tipster called the FBI five days after the riots when they noticed Starer as a woman who received medical care after police used chemical irritants to disperse the crowd, CBS News reported.
Starer allegedly bragged to the tipster before she attended the "Stop The Steal" march that she was prepared and planned to bring a "mesh knife-proof shirt and bottles of pepper spray," the news station reported.
In May 2022, a coworker was shown photos of the rioters, and they picked out Dr. Starer.
She worked at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, but a representative told NBC Boston that she "is no longer active at our organization." A bio on the hospital's website now goes to a dead link. She specialized in addiction care.
Starer is the 19th person from the Boston area arrested for their involvement in the violent riots that day, the FBI said.
